The cable car that takes you to the summit was built in the mid 19th century. ![]() At the summit, there is a stunning 360-degree view of the French, Swiss and Italian Alps, and to the South, stands the famous white Mont Blanc. It pierces the skies like a rugged piece of rock way above the glaciers and snow-covered skiing slopes. The Southern region of France is colloquially called ‘le Midi’ and Aiguille du Midi translates to Needle of the South. This is probably one of the most famous attractions of Chamonix and one that no visitor can bypass.
